Why is the badge on my jersey peeling after just a few washes? It's almost always for the same reason: washing in hot water, using a dryer, or direct ironing over the number. A 1:1 quality jersey lasts for years if washed properly — and gets ruined in a few months if not.
Most of our jerseys have a heat-sealed badge, and personalized numbers are screen-printed. Both are damaged by the same thing: heat. The retro FPC and Deportivo Cali jerseys, which are embroidered, withstand heat better but can get tangled with friction.
What you should do
- Wash by hand or on a delicate cycle, with cold water (maximum 30°C).
- Turn the jersey inside out before putting it in the washing machine so the badge doesn't rub against other clothes.
- Air dry, in the shade if possible.
- Iron inside out, at a low temperature, avoiding direct contact with the badge or number.
What you should never do
- Do not use bleach or fabric softener — they degrade the color and elasticity of the fabric.
- Do not put it in the dryer — heat is what most damages heat seals and prints.
- Do not iron it right side out or with high heat directly over the number or badge.
What if it's already damaged?
If the badge is already peeling, there's no going back for that wash — but changing your routine now will prevent it from getting worse. Watch this short video with the complete step-by-step guide:

If your jersey has a personalized number, the care is the same — the name and number are printed, just as sensitive to heat.
